Medical practices

A fractional CFO for independent medical practices.

Staying independent means running a business as well as a clinic. Highline Financial helps physicians and practice managers understand the financial side clearly enough to stay in control of it.

The challenge

Why a busy medical practice can still feel short on cash.

01

Slow, uneven reimbursement

You deliver care today and get paid weeks or months later, which makes it hard to know what you can afford right now.

02

Payer mix

Different payers pay very differently for the same visit, and few practices know what each one is worth to them.

03

Staffing costs

Clinical and administrative payroll rises every year, often faster than the revenue it supports.

04

Billing you can't see into

Whether billing is in-house or outsourced, owners often lack a simple view of what is outstanding and why.

Fractional CFO services

What Highline does for a medical practice.

Practical, one-on-one work with Matt DeHart, built around your own numbers.

Cash flow planning

Build a forward view of cash that accounts for reimbursement delays, payroll cycles and tax payments.

Revenue and margins

See which services and payers carry the practice, and what your real margin is after costs.

Overhead review

Review staffing, rent, billing services, supplies and software to find costs that have outgrown their value.

Owner and provider pay

Understand what the practice can sustainably pay its owners and providers, and how that links to the numbers.

For office managers

Your office manager lives in the numbers. We work with them too.

Most office managers were promoted for being great with people, then handed the books. Highline gives them the financial footing the role demands, and gives the owner a partner who speaks the same language.

What office managers take away

  • How to read the reports. What the profit and loss statement and balance sheet are saying, and what to flag.
  • A monthly review rhythm. A short, repeatable check on cash, collections and spending.
  • Better conversations with the owner. Clear numbers in place of gut feel when decisions come up.
  • Confidence with vendors and lenders. Knowing which costs are worth questioning.
How it works

Three steps, at a pace your schedule can handle.

Every meeting is one-on-one with Matt, by Zoom or phone, and scheduled around your client and patient hours.

Step 1 · Free

A 45-minute consultation

We talk through where the practice is today and what is keeping you up at night. There is no sales pitch. If Highline isn't the right fit, you'll still leave with a clear next step.

Step 2

A financial analysis

We go through your numbers together: cash flow, revenue, margins and expenses. Then we meet again to walk through what they show and where the real opportunities are.

Step 3

Ongoing CFO support

We meet regularly to review the numbers, make decisions and keep the plan moving. You and your office manager gain a finance lead who knows the practice.

Questions

Common questions from medical practice owners.

Which specialties do you work with?

The work is about the business side of the practice, so it applies across primary care and specialty practices. What matters is that the practice is privately owned and the owner wants a clearer view of its finances.

We have several physician owners. Does that work?

Yes. Shared ownership makes clear numbers even more useful. Meetings can include all the owners, or one owner and the practice manager.

Do you handle coding, billing or compliance?

No. Matt does not provide billing, coding, compliance or legal services. He helps you understand the financial results those functions produce and ask better questions of the people who run them.
